The Atlantica self-rising tower investigates the future of construction and explores the boundaries of automated building assembly and self-organization. Research and investigations on self-assembling components demonstrate the potential future for construction. The project explores how building parts can organically self-assemble into optimal configurations in an oceanic environment and challenges the ordinary construction process by building from top to bottom and underwater up. By utilizing a magnetic system imbedded in the structural members, the building members will be joined through magnetic forces to form optimal geometry and construction sequencing. The building geometry will be formed based on the number of members deployed underwater, which can be continuously modified by adding or removing members. The modular building components would be produced off-site, shipped to the desired assembly location and released into water, allowing the self-assembly process to happen in any major body of water. The modular nature of the triangular members formed during the construction process allows the Atlantica skyscraper to host different program types with easy adaptability.
