The proposed urban concept focuses on creating a network spaces that extent the public realm into the site and lets it transition into the seclusion and privacy of the buildings courtyards. The master plan takes into consideration the planned underground utility network for the site and uses it as its underlaying organization principle. Programmatic relationships are established to create interconnected districts within the master plan that promotes the city’s innovation, history and nature. The series of open spaces connect through view corridors created by the dynamic shapes of the individual building segments and strategically placed building cantilevers. The sloping roofs and the low-rise nature of the buildings helps the development to be embedded in the natural topography of the city without obstructing the views between the individual hills created by the meandering Yantra River.
Following the design principles of the master plan, the exhibition center translates them on a smaller scale with its shape and altering transparency. Drawing the public into its dynamic interior, the procession of spaces leads the visitors to the cantilevered main gallery with unobstructed views toward the Old Town and the Tsarevets Fortress. The lower level incorporates the functionality of a generous event space, flexible to host a variety of functions. The exterior enclosure follows the structural diagrid framing and opens strategically to provide interconnectivity between the exhibition center’s activities with its surrounding context.
